Netgear Arlo Security Cameras Setup and Account Configuration

Netgear Arlo Setup

Now that you have purchased Netgear Arlo security cameras, it is time to for you to learn how to set them up. But first, you must first create an Arlo Netgear login ID. In order to create an account, just download the Arlo app from Google play store or Apple store and install it. Once installed, open the app and select the option to create an account. You can create an Arlo pro login account by giving your email address and creating a password. The email itself acts as your Arlo Netgear login ID. Once this is done, provide any kind of verification if asked. And with that, you have successfully created an account from which you can sign in and then configure your cameras or watch the saved camera footage anytime you want. Alternatively, you can also register an Arlo account through their website https://arlo.netgear.com.

Netgear Arlo Base Station Setup

Before doing anything else, we have to first complete the Arlo base station setup. First, plug in the Ethernet cord to the base station and wait for it to connect to the internet. The lights on the base station will light up to show when the internet has been connected to the system.

Then take the Arlo cameras and put 4 lithium ion batteries in each of them. The batteries are provided with the products and they are rechargeable. A single charge with those batteries can power the camera for up to 4 to 5 months. Once the batteries are loaded, you fill find that there are buttons on each of the cameras and the base station. They are for syncing the cameras with the Netgear Arlo base system. Press them and wait for them to sync. Lights will start to blink on the base station and will keep blinking to show that the syncing process is taking place. Once the lights stop blinking, it means that all the cameras and the base station are synced. Once that is done, mount the camera into the mounting brackets that are also provided with the product package. Mounting the cameras on the brackets is extremely easy as these brackets are highly magnetic in nature. They will sturdily hold the camera with magnetic force at any angle. But, you must make sure that those magnetic brackets are firmly fixed to the wall in order to prevent any falling of the brackets themselves. Putting the Arlo cameras on brackets isn’t necessary for them to work however. The cameras can just be put on a surface and it will work just as fine. So do not worry if you are unable to fix the camera on a wall. And with this, the Arlo base station setup is complete.

Arlo New System Setup

Once all that is done and after making sure that the cameras are placed where you want them to be, go back to the app and sign back in via your Arlo Netgear Com Login ID to configure the cameras. First you will notice that the camera app has different modes. These modes are basically ways to tell the camera about what to do and when to do it. There are basically two default modes at the beginning. One being the armed mode and the other being the unarmed mode.

In the armed mode, the cameras activate their motion sensing mode. While it is active, the cameras detect any sign of movement in front of them. When they do detect any movement, they immediately activate themselves and start recording the footage. The length of the footage recorded can be anywhere for up to 120 seconds depending upon the configuration settings of the Arlo camera. Once the recording is complete, the base station will then send a push notification to your phone or will send an email, again depending upon the settings, to notify you of the intrusion and will send you the captured footage. You can then go to Arlo sign in and watch the video to check up on the potential intruder to your house or your office.

This mode is designed so that you can still keep a check on the property while you are away. Hence, this mode is best used when nobody is present at the property. Then we have the disarmed mode. In this mode, the motion sensors will be off and no alert notifications of the recorded videos will be sent to the owner. This mode is best suited for times when people are present in the property. One can easily switch between the apps and select the mode that they wish to activate. By default, the switch is optimized to go into the armed mode from 8am to 5pm and switch back to disarmed mode from 5pm to 8am.

This can however be changed based on your own requirements. In order to do this, go to mode section and press the pencil icon of the mode which you want to edit. A calendar will show when you press the icon. Select the days in which you want the modes to activate and then select the time in which you want these modes to switch during the same day.

These are basically the default modes that are already available in the Arlo app. However, there is a third option that is also available which can be used to create and customize your own mode. You can configure the Arlo setup to disable indoor cameras’ armed mode while still keeping the armed mode for outdoor cameras so as to maintain vigilance on your car, back yard etc. One can even customize their modes so that only different cameras switch to different modes at different points of time separately. In order to do this, go to the mode settings and select ‘add a mode’.

After selecting the mode, choose the camera whose settings you would like to configure. Select the option of how you would like to activate it. After doing that, you will get the option of changing the Arlo sensitivity settings. In that option, select the level of the sensitivity that you would like the cameras to have. Once the Arlo motion detection settings of the cameras are done, you will get the option of choosing the length of the video that would be recorded. This can be anywhere between 10 seconds to 120 seconds.

You also have the option of choosing the ways in which you would like your alerts to be sent to you, whether via emails or through notifications on your phone. That’s all there is to it really. With all this, the configurations of your Arlo base station and your Arlo security camera setup are now complete.
