How To Manually Update The Firmware Of My Arlo Security System?

All Arlo security cameras are designed to self update their firmware automatically. The auto update usually takes place between 3 to 5 a.m. so that the downtime is minimized. Here’s the set of steps to manually update the firmware of arlo in case it fails to go through the auto update process.

It becomes important to update the firmware of arlo for its assured efficient working. All arlo cameras can go through the auto update process. They are designed to perform auto update between 3 to 5 a.m. to ensure the downtime remains less. While updating users won’t be able to access the live streaming of their arlo but the camera keeps on recording and detects the movements and sounds depending on its number of enabled modes. While updating the firmware of an arlo Go camera the cellular data is used. All minor updates take place for once within three months. The major updates take place only once in a year. The Minor updates might consume data up to 8MB and the major updates might consume data up to 52 MB.

The steps for manually updating the firmware of Arlo Q, Arlo Go and Arlo Q Plus camera might slightly vary from Arlo Pro, Arlo, Arlo Ultra, Arlo Pro 2 and Arlo security camera. Here’s the separate procedure to update the firmware of all these arlo security cameras.

Following are the arlo support steps for manually updating the firmware of Arlo Q, Arlo Go and Arlo Q Plus security cameras:

  1. Open an arlo application if it is already installed on your internet supporting device.  In case the app is not installed, then you may visit www.my.arlo.com from any web browser of your internet connected device.
  2. Type in and submit the arlo account sign in credentials to access the arlo account.
  3. Once the arlo account opens up find the “Settings” menu and click on it.
  4. Within settings menu click on “My Devices” tab.
  5. A list of connected devices will open up on the screen. So, click on the Arlo camera whose firmware needs to be updated.
  6. After selecting the camera, click on “Device Info.”
  7. Under Device information tab click on the option for “Firmware” and then click on “Update.” Kindly, ensure the camera is not disconnected while updating. Also, ensure the battery compartment remains close throughout the firmware update process.
  8. Wait till the arlo firmware update completes. The LED light on the arlo camera will beep amber and blue in color till the firmware update file is being downloaded and installed. Once the firmware update completes the camera will restart and its LED light will turn OFF. After turning ON when the LED light stops beeping, then your camera will be ready for streaming. In case the LED light setting of your arlo has been disabled then you won’t be able to predict the firmware update process by viewing the camera LED light. Also, if the camera is disconnected or its battery compartment is left open then the entire firmware update process can halt.

Following are the steps for manually updating the firmware of Arlo Pro, Arlo, Arlo Ultra, Arlo Pro 2 and Arlo security camera:

  1. Open the arlo application or visit www.my.arlo.com from any web browser on your device.
  2. Submit the account sign in credentials and open up your Arlo Account.
  3. Once you are logged in to your account, locate the “Settings” menu and click on it.
  4. Under “Settings” menu click on the option for “My Devices.”
  5. A list of registered devices will show up, there select the arlo SmartHub that needs to be updated.
  6. Click on the option labeled as “Device Info.”
  7. The device information page will open up. So first click on the option for “Firmware” and then click on “Update.” Ensure the camera’s SmartHub is not powered OFF or disconnected while performing the firmware update.
  8. Wait until the firmware of base station is completely updated. Users will notice that the power LED light of base station beeps green in color when the firmware update file is being downloaded and installed. Once the firmware update process completes, the SmartHub will restart and its power LED will start glowing amber in color. If the power LED and Internet LED light start glowing green then it means the firmware update for base station has been successful.
  9. Repeat the same steps for Arlo camera. Click on “Device Info” followed by a single click on “Device Settings.”
  10. Under Device Settings menu click on “My Devices” to view the list of registered devices.
  11. Choose your Arlo camera from the list of devices.
  12. Click on “Device Info” tab followed by a click on the option for “Firmware” under it.
  13. Click on the “Update” button. Ensure the battery compartment remains close while the firmware update is under progress.
  14. Wait till the update completes successfully.                 Users may notice that the LED light of camera beeps alternatively blue and amber in color till the firmware update file is being downloaded. After the firmware update file has been downloaded the camera LED will turn OFF and will remain in OFF state till the installation completes. Once the firmware update completes the camera LED light will start beeping blue in color.
