All arlo cameras can be configured for sharing email notifications and mobile alerts whenever it detects any kind of movement or sound. The procedure for enabling notification and alerts remains to be same in case of all models of Arlo camera. Here’s the list of common setup steps for Arlo push notification & alerts.

Arlo camera’s notification and alerts can be enabled by editing its comprising modes and rules. The notifications and alerts will only be shared when a movement or sound is detected by any of the arlo cameras that are linked to the base station available with you. Before editing arlo modes users must have sound knowledge about them. Here’s brief introduction about arlo modes and rules that will prove to be helpful while editing them for turning on the notifications and alerts.

Arlo modes:

Arlo modes help users in attaining overall control on their Arlo security camera. It allows users to configure their camera to behave differentials as per various situations or conditions. Arlo cameras have maximum of four default modes but if required, users can self create new modes as well. Following is the list of four default modes:

  • Armed mode: This mode instructs camera to initiate a trigger whenever and any kind of motion is detected by it. The trigger leads the camera to start recording up to 10 seconds and share it with the user through an email or push notification.
  • Disarmed mode: This mode configures the camera for not initiating the trigger when a movement or sound is detected. Also, no notifications are sent when a camera is configured to disarmed mode.
  • Schedule mode: This mode allows the camera to switch between modes at a certain time decided by its user.
  • Geo-fencing mode: This mode is almost similar to schedule mode. The only difference is that it works on the basis of location of mobile device that has enabled GPS service. In this a user needs to set a particular location or area from where the camera mode should be changed. After a location has been setup, the mode will get changed as per requirement whenever the GPS enabled mobile is found within certain area from the selected location.

Arlo Rules:

Each arlo mode consists of several rules that help in the functioning of a mode for controlling the working of camera.  Users can apply maximum of five rules while creating an arlo mode. All of these five rules have been listed as follows.

  • Trigger device: It refer to the device (Arlo) that will trigger each time any kind of movement or sound will be detected.
  • Trigger: It refers to the detection of movement and sound. Users can increase or decrease the sensitivity of camera according to the requirement of detecting nearby movements and sounds. One can also create maximum of three activity zones for region specific sound and movement detection.
  • Devices: It refers to the cameras that will be triggered for recording when a movement or sound is detected by another camera. Here the siren can also be turned after the trigger is initiated.
  • Notification: It states that the camera will notify the user through an email or push notification whenever movement or sound is detected. User can also opt for sending notification to other family members, friends, sisters, brothers, etc.

  1. Open the arlo application or open any web browser and visit www.my.arlo.com.
  2. Type in and submit the arlo account sign in credentials to access the account.
  3. Once users are at the home page of Arlo account, they may click on the “Mode” menu.
  4. A list of cameras will show up. There click on the camera for which notification and alerts need to be turned ON.
  5. Number of modes comprising that camera’s functionality will show up on the screen. So click on the pencil like icon available in front of the mode whose rules need to be edited for enabling the reception of arlo push notifications and alerts.
  6. Locate the pencil like icon available next to an arlo rule that needs to be edited for receiving notifications.
  7. Go to alert section and click on the check box for “Push Notification.” This will enable the reception of arlo push notifications.
  8. For email alerts, click inside the checkbox labeled as “Email Alerts.” After opting in for email alerts, users will have to provide the email ID details to which the email alerts will be sent in future. The email ID linked to Arlo account will be considered as the default email address for sending email alerts. To add another email ID, users may click on the “Edit” button and then type in the new ID details.
  9. After making all the changes, click on the “Save” button.
