The steps for increasing or maximizing the life of the Arlo Pro camera are discussed in the blog post. You can go through the steps and implement the same on your device and find the difference. If the battery is still draining fast, then contact the Arlo experts.
Netgear Arlo Camera once fully charged can last for around 3-6 months. However, there is a number of factors that can influence its battery life. We are going to discuss some best ways to increase the efficiency and life of the Arlo Pro camera battery.
Change the video Quality of app
The best and easiest way to increase battery life is by changing the quality of video in the app. Though the quality of the video will be effected with the change in the resolution it will provide juice to the camera’s battery and you don’t need to recharge it.
To change the quality of video from the app, click on ‘Settings’ followed by the below-mentioned steps.
- Go to ‘My devices’ from the top.
- Select the ‘Arlo Pro’ camera from the list.
- Click on ‘Video settings’.
- Under this, you will find the ‘Best battery life’ option.
Keep the Camera in a warm environment
According to Netgear experts, then the camera must not be placed in an area where the temperature is below 32 degrees. This affects battery life and it keeps on discharging fast. So, always try to mount the cameras inside the window or in a place where the temperature remains constant. Otherwise, you will have to charge it more frequently during the colder conditions.
Netgear doesn’t argue about the warmer temperature but at the same time, heat also affects the battery life. So, you can even place the Arlo cameras outdoors and try not to sweat it too much.
Install in well-lit areas
You may or may not know the fact that Arlo Pro camera has night vision abilities through IR light that lits in the frame. This light uses the extra battery and expedites the discharging process.
If you have placed the Arlo Pro camera in the dark conditions like the garage where there is 90% darkness, then the night vision light will remain on forever and will consume the battery faster. This will result in a 15% hike in the battery drain and the battery will remain on for three months only.
Because of this, you must install the camera in an area where there is proper natural lighting. This will maximize the life of the battery.
Avoid weak wireless connections
The Arlo cameras are connected to the central base which further connects to the router. If the camera is not able to connect to the central base easily, then this will consume more battery and minimize the battery life.
To check the connection status and strength, you can open the app and go to ‘Settings’. From there, click on ‘Connection’. If you find three bars on the tops, then the connection strength is proper. If not, then either move the camera or the base station closer to each other. This will improve the connection strength.
